Pack Food Program
Did you know there were children at our local elementary schools who basically don't have any food to eat on the weekends? Lets fight to end that. Our first month of collections was going great at the time of writing these newsletter articles, but we will need to continue collecting for this great new local ministry. We will set up a cardboard box inside of each mission box to collect specifically for this mission. If you have a group that would like to contribute money or would like to drop off items collected by your group, please contact us at missions@mauldinmethodist.com
Items needed include:
• Juice boxes or milk boxes
• Individual servings of spaghetti, macaroni, beanie weanees, etc.
• Peanut butter or other crackers
• Individual cereals
• Granola or cereal bars
• Oatmeal
• Vienna sausages
• Fruit cups (peaches, pears, applesauce, etc.)
• Tuna fish • Chips, goldfish, pretzels, cheez-its, etc.
• Pop tarts
Be creative -- there are other items than what is listed above. Buy in bulk to save money as long as the items are individually packaged. For instance, we CANNOT use large boxes of cereal and then put individual servings in a baggie. Food items must be unopened. Nothing that has to be refrigerated. Thank you for your help with this very worthy project.

Gospel of Mark Sermon Series!

WE'RE KICKING OFF A NEW SERMON SERIES!
We are really excited to begin a new sermon series on the book of Mark. The series will be an in depth look at Mark's gospel. Over the next several weeks we will be exploring the most controversial, famous, and fascinating man that ever walked the planet; a man named Jesus who came from an obscure town in the Middle East and actually claimed to be sent on a mission by God to rescue and redeem the entire world.
WHO IS JESUS?
Everyone has an opinion on Jesus. He is the most talked about and debated person in history. Some think he was a prophet, others a good moral teacher, others a person of fiction, yet others God in the flesh. If we want to investigate that life, to discern whether Jesus really did live and die and rise again, to know if the Easter story contains even “a grain of history” or perhaps even the key to history, we need to go to the Gospels, the historical documents that tell Jesus’s story. Please join us over the next couple months as we go to the historical Gospel of Mark to learn who is Jesus.
SHARE THE GOSPEL
Because this series will be an exploration of who Jesus is, it is a great opportunity to invite friends and family to hear the Gospel in it's entirety.
YOUR MISSION
Read the Gospel of Mark (it takes about 1 hour)
Invite 2 Friends to church with you this Sunday to join us on this journey
Prayers for MUMC and the Congregation
We have a new Prayer Line telephone number (864) 607-8836. This is a pre-paid cell phone that MUMC owns and the Prayer Ministry will use to receive prayer requests for the 24 hour prayer chain. A prayer team member will check the voice mail throughout the day for prayer requests, praises, or messages. If the caller requests to have someone call back, a team member will return the call as soon as possible to get more information on the request and also offer to pray with the caller.
If you just want to leave the request and not have a call returned that is fine also. The request will be sent on to the prayer chain as soon as possible.
As a reminder, there are other ways to get a request on the 24 hour prayer chain. Sundays at all services, blue cards are available in the pews in the sanctuary and out on the display table at the Spirit Center. You may drop them in the offering plate or leave them in Box 19 by the office. The Mauldin Methodist Website www.mauldinmethodist.com is also a very easy way to submit a request.
Other opportunities for prayer include coming up to a Prayer Partner during the LIVE Service at the back of the Spirit Center or coming up to a Prayer Partner in the transept after the Traditional Services.

On the third Monday at 7:00 p.m., the Order of St. Luke holds their Prayer and Healing Service and that is a very special time.
Prayer is powerful –– Let us pray for you and your loved ones.

Spiritual Assessment Guides are here!
OUR MISSION: TO MAKE DISCIPLES FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE WORLD
(Paragraph 120 Book of Discipline)
"A fruitful disciple is: a follower of Jesus Christ; obedient to the Word; changed by God’s grace; led by the Spirit
to love God and others as He loves us."
Sometimes, you just need a little help...a little guidance, or a nudge in the right direction. Well, you may have noticed these "Self-Assessment Guides" around the church. It was put together by a disciple formation team over a very long period of time this past year, and it's meant to help us grow in our faith...one step at a time! It's not the "be all-end all" but it's a START!!
Please pick up one of these guides and 1.) Turn it over to the very back FIRST and really, truly honestly (very important) assess yourself. It won't do you any good to fudge the truth on this since you're the only one who sees it...other than God :)
2.) Once you complete the assessment, add up your scores and see where you perhaps have room for growth.
3.) At that point, open up the guide all the way (so that it lays flat on a table--like a map that's opened up all the way), and you'll see each question again, and the different level suggestions to help you along. We suggest having a journal or a notepad to jot down some things you will try.
4.) Also, just fyi...The first inside panel with our button symbols is just an explanation of our 5 G's for your reference but has nothing to do with your assessment.
We hope that you will seriously consider doing this. You could spend an entire study course of the elements of this guide alone. Please hang onto these because the "journey" never ends, and there will be a time down the road that you can use it again!! There is alot of good stuff in here.
But first....let's just take the next step...shall we??
In Christ,
-Disciple Formation Team
Prayer Shaw Ministry Details!
The MUMC Prayer Shawl Ministry began in March 2008. One hundred and twenty-four shawls, lap blankets, and baby blankets have been given out to individuals suffering loss, serious illness or emotional distress. Shawls are blessed and prayed over by their maker and during our monthly Prayer and Healing Service. Our church has a group of dedicated ladies and gentlemen who produce these items of love. We have added Prayer Bears to our ministry to be given to children in the hospital. Our outreach is growing. A local Hospice house, shut-ins in nursing homes, families of fallen soldiers, and mothers expecting babies with birth defects in other countries are some of the recipients of our shawls.
If you would like to learn to knit or crochet, join us! Meeting times: 2nd Sunday of every month, 3rd Floor Spirit Center, 6-8 p.m. or Friendly Yarn meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Downtown Coffee Shop across from the church. If you would like to request a shawl or get involved in this rewarding ministry, call Sylvia Watson at 963-2261 or email sylwat@charter.net for more information.
Ways to Tithe and Fulfill Your Financial Commitment to MUMC
How Can We Fulfill our Commitment to Tithe and Give to MUMC's Ministry?
GIVE BACK TO GOD USING EXTRAVAGANT GENEROSITY
Here are some ways to give that we would like to highly encourage you to participate in:
Of course, you can use your offering envelopes and place them in the Collection Plate each month, or use Bill Pay through your personal online bank to forward your tithes and offerings each month to Mauldin United Methodist Church, 100 East Butler Road, Mauldin, SC 29662-2104.
BUT, Can we suggest that you use Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), the easiest and most cost-effective option for you and for MUMC. With EFT, you can reinforce your commitment to give your tithes and offerings to God first, before anything else. One easy step each year guarantees that MUMC will receive your financial gifts on a regular basis, even if you are out of town. EFT is easy and can be increased, decreased or stopped at any time if your circumstances change. You may also continue your EFT contributions from year to year.
EFT tri-fold brochures are available in the display racks on the tables in the Son Room and the Spirit Center. The EFT brochure includes an authorization request that you may complete and turn in to the church business office to start your participation. The brochures include several Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) with answers for your information. If you have more questions, please call the church office at 864-288-4728, ext. 122 and ask for Mary McDonald, Church Bookkeeper, or call Rich Watkins, Financial Secretary, at 864-676-9170. You may also reach Mary at MaryMcDonald@MauldinMethodist.com and Rich at RichWatkins@MindSpring.com.
CONNECT. Prayerfully consider joining the growing number of MUMC members that use Bill Pay and EFT to make their regular contributions to MUMC each month. These members are helping insure that MUMC receives a regular monthly flow of contributions to support the many programs that are Touching Lives for Christ.
