Angel Tree“Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. This unique program gives your church an opportunity to share Christ’s love by helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners.
Angel Tree Christmas works by connecting parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts. Every Christmas, thousands of churches like yours help brighten the lives of countless children by purchasing, wrapping and delivering gifts on behalf of their incarcerated parent—not only delivering a message of love from parent to child, but also the true meaning of Christmas—the good news of Jesus Christ.”—From www.angeltree.org
At Mauldin United Methodist Church we currently assist in connecting 186 children with an inmate parent by helping to provide Christmas gifts. To us it is a reminder that first the child is not responsible for the parent, but that through this activity we get to show God’s love to both the child and the parent through one act. Typically we put up the Angel Trees around mid-November. We expect over 60 individuals to be involved in filling out Angel tags, sorting gifts and delivery not to mention the folks who take their time and money to purchase the gifts. Many families work together on this project.
