SalkehatchieEvery year our youth aged 14 and up partipcate in a summer work program called Salkehatchie. This program takes youth from all over the state of South Carolina to help repair homes for people who cannot themselves because they don't have the money and/or are handicapped. We are not talking about touching up the paint. These projects involve homes that are basically would be condemened if inspected. These youth replace roofs, install indoor plumbing for both water and sanitary sewer. They often replace rotten floor strucures, crawl in rat infested crawl spaces and all in the middle of a southern summer.
They also spend time worshiping together at their housing churches and with those they are helping. Many times they get to have daily devotions with the homeowners.
Last year 27 MUMC youth attended four different Salkehatchie camps in South Carolina. If you would like to participate in our Salkehatchie groups contact the youth minister.
