History of MUMC

Mauldin United Methodist Church began as Poplar Springs Methodist Episcopal Church, South more than a hundred twenty years ago. The building pictured was in use from 1904 until 1940 when members erected a brick building, the present chapel. Until 1956 Popular Spings was on a circuit, sharing its minister with several other churches. The name was changed in 1959, long after the springs were covered over and after Mauldin had begun to grow.

Faithful members and dedicated ministers kept the church alive through wars and the depression while Mauldin was a small agricultural community. Since the 50's and 60's many new familys have joined the congregation, helping to build the new sanctuary, the Lesuire Ministries building, the Children's building, and the Administrative wing, thereby expanding the programs and outreach of the church.

With a present church membership of over 1650 and two new buildings, under the leadership of consecrated ministers and with strong lay participation, Mauldin United Methodist Church is facing up to the challenge of remaining a serving, caring, close community of believers in a rapidly growing suburban city.
